Decades of Making a Difference
Ruthie James & Reeby Road Houses
There are currently twelve houses managed by IAP: six houses are owned by residents on IAP-owned land, and six are rental properties. Two additional fully owned houses were built or renovated by IAP on land donated or purchased at a low cost. Here are some examples below or read Testimonials from some of the Islesboro residents that have been directly impacted by our work.

Schnur Cottages - Coming Summer 2025
Exciting news in 2025:
In January, the necessary funding for a Maine State Housing Authority [MSHA] grant was approved, securing the monies for IAP to begin construction of the subdivision. This supplements a loan from the Genesis Fund and private donations that make the project possible. Marc V. Schnur generously donated the building site on Reeby Road. The initial build-out consists of two houses, each with 3 bedrooms and two baths, helping to mitigate the housing shortage facing Islesboro families seeking year-round, affordable residences.
In February, the road clearing and foundation construction began.
In March and April, as the ground thawed, clearing and road construction were completed. The septic field underground structure was laid in, anticipating completion after the houses were up, and well installation was scheduled.
In May, the foundations were poured….
In July, on the exciting, sunny morning of July 21 at high tide, Prock Marine brought in a barge at the Narrows and used a crane to hoist over the rock wall the 3 boxes that make up the first modular home. These come on wheels, ready to be dragged by a truck to the Reeby Road construction site where they now sit, along with the second set of boxes delivered the next day.
Assembly of the modular homes will be carried out by Broughman Builders on September 2-6. Finish work, hooking up plumbing and electric connections, and installation of appliances and heat pumps will follow. Keep your eye peeled for new housing right around the corner! The anticipated availability of these units (hopefully by Nov. 1 at the latest) has been made public in compliance with MSHA marketing regulations and and prospective applicants can find more information on our website

Looking to the Future: Town Center Houses
IAP is making real change and FAST. Construction has also been approved to begi on the Town Center Houses project. This will consist of 2 duplexes- each with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, bringing IAP's inventory to 18 units when the project is finished. Currently, IAP is aiming to raise $1.5 million in private donations to bring this community to fruition. Going forward, we are on the lookout for two critical aspects that will allow us to continue to build additional rental units: acquisition of other parcels of land suitable for such housing, as in the newly rezoned up-island center, and also private funding.
